Temporary Exhibition: Inner Pasts

Dijon houses a unique archive in Europe. Nearly 700 post-mortem inventories, covering the period from 1390 to 1459, offer a glimpse into the lives of Dijon residents. This exhibition reveals these interiors through digital reconstructions.

For the duration of this exhibition, immerse yourself in medieval Dijon, reconstructed from archival sources. Five inventories, five interiors, five life stories illustrate the daily lives of the inhabitants of this era. Explore the rooms of their homes and discover the everyday objects of a craftsman, a servant, or a winemaker…

The exhibition also invites visitors to better understand the work carried out by historians with these documents. Analysis, questioning, and cross-referencing with other archives allow us to glean clues from these sources about the domestic lives of past generations.

For young audiences

Enjoy the exhibition as a family, thanks to our children’s trail. Become a historian and help Marion, your colleague, discover the hidden words throughout the visit.

A route offered for ages 8 and up, to be done as a family.
